Another Year Older.

Greg flexed his shoulders and sat back in his chair. It was his birthday yet again, and the very idea of being another year older made him feel tired. There were a few cards from the others in his team- Sally, Anderson, Dimmock and the ladies at the reception downstairs. A Tesco's chocolate cake had materialised at lunch which had been shared out quickly and devoured within minutes. There was still a slice on Greg's desk that he intended to take home for later, but it was tempting for him to eat it now while he had a rare moment of calm.
Working on my birthday. Better than sat at home doing nothing, I guess.
Emma had rung him yesterday, saying she'd drop Ben and Maisie over in the evening to see him. That at least gave him something to look forward to as the hours dragged on.

Greg's moment of calm didn't last. Just as he felt himself dozing off, there was a knock on his office door.
"Come in." he mumbled drowsily, straightening himself up in his chair as the door swung open.
