1. He almost asked Molly out for drinks after the Christmas party at Baker Street. To this day, he's never been sure why he didn't. 2. Greg ran the London marathon once. Ash sat cross-legged on her floor, staring at the canvas in front of her. She hadn't touched any of her supplies since before Tristan died. Sighing, she shakily picked up her brush and began her work. Two hours later, she finally gave up, leaving the canvas to dry and going to the bathroom to clean her brushes. After all of that was put away, she sat in the bathtub and began to cry. She couldn't do it. Her hands were ruined beyond repair. She'd been silly to think that she could try to make anything of worth... she was useless, just like the canvas in the other room.

Background:

Greg always wanted to be a policeman, ever since he was just a boy chasing his three brothers around the tiny back garden behind his family's little house. His family weren't poor, but they weren't exactly well off either. The Lestrades got by on what they needed without wasting money on unnecessary luxuries. His parents divorced when he was 13, but they were and still are on amicable terms.
Greg got through school with good grades just over the average and a few close friends. He was likeable, popular, and played on the school football team. Girlfriends came and went (and one boyfriend briefly in university), until he finally joined the police force, achieving his life-long dream and joining his oldest brother Darren. Eventually Greg climbed through the ranks as his experience and dedication was noticed by higher powers, and was finally recruited at Scotland Yard in 2003.
Although the members of his team are skilled professionals (perhaps sometimes with the exception of Anderson), he soon learned that becoming involved with Sherlock Holmes was both a curse and a godsend. There would be far too many criminals wandering the streets of London if it wasn't for Sherlock, which leaves Greg both in awe of the man and also slightly frustrated. Things became gradually more bearable with the arrival of John Watson and the two men soon bonded, going out for drinks and venting about the strange detective that linked them. Later, Greg met Sherlock's brother Mycroft- well, in actuality he was 'kidnapped' in order to discuss matters of protecting Sherlock from the increasingly mysterious threat of a Jim Moriarty.
Greg was married with a daughter called Cara and a son named Ben, but the relationship with his wife gradually became uncomfortable and they divorced. Greg still sees his children every fortnight or so.

((Sorry if it keeps taking me ages to reply. I'm trying to get a job at the moment so a lot of my time is spent handing out CVs and scrolling through endless websites hoping to find something I'm old enough to do that isn't badly paid care work. I will try and reply to all of you as soon and as often as I can, but I can't promise that it will be as regular or frequent as it used to be.
